Wyndham Clark (-4) has hung on to win his 2nd US Open and fifth PGA TOUR victory in his 204th start at the age of 32.
Whilst it wasn’t done in a canter, especially during a tense final round, Clark becomes the ninth wire-to-wire winner (no ties), joining Walter Hagen (1914), Jim Barnes (1921), Ben Hogan (1953), Tony Jacklin (1970), Tiger Woods (2000, 2002), Rory McIlroy (2011) and Martin Kaymer (2014).
His closing 73 marks the highest finish by a TOUR winner since Rory McIlroy shot 73 to win the 2025 Masters Tournament.
With Scott Burns safely in the clubhouse (-3), Clark made a terrific birdie on the 16th to open up a 2 shot lead. His 24 foot birdie putt was his fifth putt over 20 feet or more for the tournament. He then three putted on 17 but he held tough with a four on the final hole – tapping in a six incher for a well-earned victory.
Sadly none of the five starting Australians made the cut: Cam Smith and Lucas Herbert +6, Min woo Lee +7, Adam Scott +8 and Jason Day withdrew at +7 during the second round due to a back injury.

Major Championship Highlights
Clark recorded the 21st win out of 22 players who held a lead of six or more strokes entering the final round of a major championship. Only our very own Greg Norman (1996 Masters Tournament won by Nick Faldo) has surrendered such a lead (how painful hat was to watch!)
Seeking his first major championship, five-time PGA TOUR winner Sam Burns picks up the sixth runner-up finish of his career (most recent: 2025 RBC Canadian Open)
World No. 1 and 20-time PGA TOUR winner Scottie Scheffler finishes T4 on his 30th birthday and of course he was seeking to become the seventh player in history to complete the Career Grand Slam. In some consolation, his high finish see him retake the lead in the FedExCup standings.
Additional player notes:
- Tom Kim finishes third on his 24th birthday
- Keith Mitchell (T4) becomes the first player in U.S. Open history with four rounds at even par
- Tyrrell Hatton (T6/2018, T7/2026) is the only player with top-10s in the 2018 & 2026 U.S. Opens at Shinnecock Hills
- Xander Schauffele (T11) has now finished inside the top 14 in all 10 U.S. Open appearances
- Aaron Rai finishes T11 in bid to become first back-to-back major winner since Jordan Spieth (2015)
- Rory McIlroy finishes T32 in bid to become seventh player to win the Masters and U.S. Open in same year
Amateur leaderboard
- Jackson Koivun (+5)
- Ryder Cowan (+5)
- Miles Russell (+7)
- Marek Fleming (+10)
- Eric Lee (+13)
Koivun’s 68 is the lowest final round by an amateur at the U.S. Open since Viktor Hovland shot 67 in 2019 and he is the first amateur to break 70 in the final round in a U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.
