Two Majors in a row for Aussie girls

Jul 14, 2025

After a stunning finish to the Amundi Evian Championship, Sydneysider Grace Kim has captured her first major Championship just weeks after Minjee Lee notched up her third major. That makes two major titles in a row for the red hot Aussie girls. Gabriela Ruffles was right in the mix entering the final round too, just one off the pace. She eventually finished inside the Top 10 (-10 / T9), with yet another Australian Stephanie Kyriacou on -8 (T14). Four golfers in the Top20 at a major, not bad form from our Australian contingent!

But the moment belonged to Grace. One shot adrift the leaders entering the final, Kim bogeyed two of her first four holes to drop off the pace. An ordinary double bogey at the 12th hole saw her slip three off the pace and she looked destined for a top 10 finish at best. However back to back birdies in 15 and 16 made her a live chance. At her final hole par five, her stunning second shot rolled past the flag and caught a back stop to roll within a metre of the hole, setting up an eagle and a sudden death playoff with Jeeno Thitikul (World number 2).

At the first playoff hole, Kim’s chances looked dashed when her second shot found the water, however after a drop off the green she chipped in for birdie, forcing Jeeno to make a similar distance putt to the one she missed on the final hole to deny her victory. She made it and a second playoff ensued.

It was back to the 18th tee for a third time for Kim and Thitikul. Kim’s second shot found the putting surface and she drained a six meter putt for another eagle, securing her first major crown and the $1.8 million dollar winner’s cheque.
