Scottie Scheffler has won the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush with ease, strolling to a four shot victory over Harris English. Sadly only one Australian of nine, Marc Leishman, made the cut. After a pair of 68s in the second and third rounds, Leishman was just outside the Top 20 (T22), but he finished with a disappointing final round 75 (T52).
However the week was all about the World #1 Scottie Scheffler and the result really didn’t look in doubt after his sensational second round 64. At the half way point he led by one shot, after three rounds he led by four and he finished with a final round of -3 for a total of 267 (-17). The only other player to have 4 sub-par rounds was Nicolai Hojgaard of Denmark. He recorded four rounds of 69 (-2) to finish T14. Alongside Scottie, the pair are only the 11th and 12th players to complete an Open with found rounds under 70.
Scheffler now has four majors in just 25 starts to date, with another 12 top 10 finishes. He’s only the second player to win the Open as World #1 (the last was Tiger in 2000, 05 and 06). If he can add a US Open to his cabinet he’ll become only the seventh players to complete the career Grand Slam.
Runner up Harris English shot a 66 to finish runner up on -13, with Chris Gotterup closing with a 67 to finish sole third on -12.

Scottie Scheffler:
“It's a very special feeling. It takes a lot of work to get to this point in my career. This was a tough week. It was challenging. The golf course was playing really tough, and I had to focus very hard over the course of the weekend. Really the only blemish over the last 36 holes was the double on 8, but did a good job of resetting and coming back with a birdie on 9. I guess this one was different than the PGA in terms of I had a decent lead to start the day. PGA, I felt like I struggled a bit on the front nine and was able to kind of push forward and win it on the back nine, whereas this one I felt like I built up a lead. It got a little close there after the double on 8, but like I said, bounced back on 9 and was able to keep a pretty sizable lead for most of the day.”
