Hovland beats Scheffler in playoff at Travelers Championship

Jun 30, 2026

After a delay during the final round at the Travelers Championship, regulation play completed with Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler tied at the top of a talent stacked leader board. However they were forced to return the following day for a playoff on the 18th and it was Hovland who overcame the World #1 with a birdie on the first playoff hole.

Hovland was the 54 round leader, firing a final round 69 with Scheffler making a playoff with a 68. Collin Morikawa nearly came from the clouds after a closing 61 to finish just one shot from the pair on -20. Mike Fitzpatrick was just one shot behind on -19 with US Open Champion Wyndham Clark and Akshay Bhatia a further shot back on -19 (262).

For Hovland it was his eighth PGA TOUR title in his 146th start as he nears his 29th birthday. With only a few weeks until the year’s final major, The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, he looks a great chance to grab his first major. He becomes first Norwegian winner of the Travelers Championship and his final score of 259 was his career best 72 hole score.

As mentioned, Scottie Scheffler (P2/-21) maintains his World #1 ranking and lead in the FedExCup standings following the playoff loss to Hovland. The 20-time TOUR winner collects his 14th runner-up finish and fourth of the season. It was his 35th straight top-25 finish, the second most in the past 40 years (most: 38/Tiger Woods) and he holds the current longest streak of consecutive made cuts (78). His last missed cut came at the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship.
