Riversdale Golf Club is holding a special pre centenary lunch to look ahead for a special milestone year in 2027. The lunch is for members, present and past staff, and supporters from the 1950s to the 1980s era to join in a special gathering at the Club.
The Riversdale Revisited luncheon will be held on Friday, 14 August at the home of Riversdale - St John’s Wood.
Attendees will have the chance to recall memories from years gone by, as well as gain and provide some fascinating insights into Riversdale’s Centenary celebrations planned for next year, marking 100 years at the St John’s Wood course.
Some of the moments connected to the Club’s past will include:
- An overview of the 100th celebrations of St John's Wood and what’s planned
- The Club’s relationship with previous owner Louisa Barrow and her relationship with the famous Sir Redmond Barry
- The intriguing legend of the Ned Kelly hanging judge Sir Redmond Barry
- Tales of the ghost associated with the clubhouse
- And many other stories from Riversdale’s rich history in being the home of the only continuous international amateur event in Australia - the Riversdale Cup.
“This luncheon is about bringing the Riversdale community together, especially those who were part of the Club through the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, while also giving everyone an early glimpse into what the Centenary year will bring,” said Geoff Sowden, one of the Club's Riversdale Cup winner and event organiser.
