It’s only a few weeks until the US Open at Shinnecock Hills, so players are keen to keep honing their game as the third major of the year approaches.
Russell Henley currently sits as World #5 and he has confirmed his claims as one of the best players on Tour not to have won a major by winning his sixth PGA Tour tile – the Charles Schwab Challenge. In a tight leader board, Henley and Eric Cole finished on -12 and a playoff was needed to separate the two. With a birdie 3 on the first playoff, Henley came out on top – his second playoff victory in three tries.
Henley entered the final round three shots back from the lead and sensationally birdied his final three holes to tie the lead and force the playoff. In 12 starts this season, Henley is in fine form, with four top-10 finishes, highlighted by a victory at the Charles Schwab Challenge and a T3 finish at the Masters Tournament.
54-hole leader Eric Cole (P2/-12) fell to Henley in the playoff and he now owns three runner-up finishes on TOUR (2023 Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches (lost in a playoff to Chris Kirk), 2023 Baycurrent Classic, 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge).
Ben Griffin (T3/-11) finished one back in bid to join Ben Hogan (1946-47, 1952-53) as the only back-to-back winner, matching his best finish this season (other: 3rd/Cadillac Championship)
Making first start since finishing T2 at the PGA Championship, Alex Smalley (T3/-11) earns his seventh straight top-25 finish
Texas native Mac Meissner (T3/-11) earned his second top-10 finish in his third start at the Charles Schwab Challenge (T5/2024, T28/2025, T3/2026) and now sits at No. 4 in the Aon Swing 5, earning a spot in next week’s Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.
Only two Aussies played at the Charles Schwab. Cam Davis (E) and Karl Villips (+8) both missed the weekend action.
Henley will enter the US open as one of the favourites if you are looking to have a wager on the tournament or you can have a play at Ripper Casino if that takes your fancy.
